Perama Corfu, Rent a car Perama
Perama is located on the east side of Corfu, about seven kilometers south of Corfu town, just opposite Pontikonisi and is connected to Kanoni by a bridge.
It is the port of Gastouri as most properties here belong to the inhabitants of this mountain village.
The area covers an area of about 5 km along the highway, starting from Chrysida and Karydies area 5 km from Corfu and reaching up to the Kaiser Bridge 2 km from Benitses.
The Kaiser Bridge connected the pier with a small road to Achilleion and was built by the last private owner of Achilles, the German royal family in the early 20th century, blown up again by the Germans during the German occupation, for them to pass under with their military vehicles!
Perama is a popular seaside tourist resort for many decades, especially during the 80s and the 90s. Today, the area has many hotels and lodgings, it is surrounded by olive trees and has many beautiful pebble beaches.

Most visitors to Corfu have passed through Perama, although now the ones who live there are much fewer than in the 1980s.
It is located between Corfu and Benitses and many of its hotels and bars overlook the most photographed attraction – the island of Corfu Pontikonisi.
Next to Pontikonisi, you can see the monastery of Vlacherna.
Also, some restaurants and bars over the bridge to Kanoni are the best places to watch planes arriving and departing.
On the bridge that connects Perama with Kanoni, there are usually fishermen who throw their nets into the sea or into the lagoon, but also observers of planes because the end of the runway is just a few meters away.
Although it is relatively busy, it is a popular place for evening walks.
It provides quick access to the city of Corfu, without having to go around the airport, you can either walk the whole way to the city (about 30 minutes) or take a bus from Kanoni.
From Perama there is a road – path leading to Gastouri, at the edge of which is Achilleion, several chapels and historic old houses.
The whole route is covered by tall trees and is ideal for a pleasant walk even in summer.
In a less well-known location lies the old aqueduct, built by the British and still used today. Ιt is not easy to find, but it is worth the search.
Gerald Durrell’s fans also know that Gerald Durrell stayed in two houses in the nearby location of Chrysida. The wildlife in and around the lagoon was a constant source of inspiration for the young naturalist and there are still older people who still remember him with great love.
All bus lines to the southern part of the island pass through Perama. Mesogi, Issos, Vitalades, Lefkimmi and Kavos are all accessible from the intercity bus stop and the city bus that goes to Benitses passes here very often.
The beaches here are small, but impressive, as the hills are steep.
In general, Perama is an excellent base for those who wish to explore the island. It is not the ideal resort for those looking for a beach holiday, but for more active people who love walking, it is perfect.
