Archaeological Museum

In Garitsa, a pleasant 15-minute walk from the Old Town, the Archaeological Museum presents some of the archaeological findings discovered on the island. Its prominent position is the mythical Gorgon Gable of the 5th century BC, which once adorned the temple of Artemis at Kanoni. It is one of the best preserved archaic sculptures in Greece.

One of the most beautiful exhibits of the museum is the archaic lion that was found near the tomb of Menecrates and which dates back to the 7th century BC. There are also finds from the temple of Hera and the temple of Apollo discovered in Mon Repos. Finally, one can admire a large collection of Corfiot coins.

Byzantine Museum

The Byzantine Museum is housed in the church of Panagia Antivouniotissa. It is a museum of post-Byzantine religious art of the Cretan and the Ionian School in Corfu.

The collection includes early Christian sculptures, parts of Byzantine frescoes and a collection of icons, important works by well-known and anonymous artists, dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries and representing fully six centuries of religious artistic expression and creation in Corfu and the Ionian Islands.

Solomos Museum

The renovated home of the Greek national poet Dionysios Solomos .The museum contains his office, personal belongings and a collection of photographs related to his life and work. There is a rich library dedicated to Solomos as well as portraits of him and other representatives of the “Ionian School”.

The beautiful world of the deep sea. The museum includes many impressive and rare species from most of the world’s seas and features one of the largest and most complete shell collections in Europe.

It contains shells, fossils, sponges, corals, stuffed fish, sharks and shark teeth, lobsters, crabs, sea urchins, snakes and much more from the Indian and Pacific Oceans, as well as from the Mediterranean Sea.
