Famous special and with many songs written about it, Paleokastritsa is an area of unparalleled beauty.
Paleokastritsa is located a little further north from the center of the island on the west side and is about 25 kilometers away from Corfu town by road.It is not only one of the most beautiful parts of the island but also of all the Ionian Islands.
One of the most recognizable areas of Corfu magnetizes visitors with its icy, crystal clear waters, the rocky coast and the verdant hills. The water in this area is cold because it descends faster and because there are cold currents.
Paleokastritsa has been characterized as the jewel of Corfu, consisting of a series of beaches separated by small headlands. The view from the village of Lakones on the hill above Palaiokastritsa is unique.
According to historians, it was the capital of the island of Phaeacians, described by Homer in the Odyssey, when Alkinoos reigned where Nausica met Ulysses.
